Changing Your Password

This guide explains the secure methods for resetting your password. For your protection, password changes can only be initiated when you are logged out. The login page provides two distinct methods for recovery: a standard email-based reset and an emergency reset using your recovery key if you've lost access to your email.

🛑 Important Security Rule: Must Be Logged Out

To prevent a malicious actor from changing your password during a compromised, active session, our platform requires all password resets to begin from a logged-out state.

  • There is no "Change Password" option inside your account settings.
  • If you are logged in and wish to change your password, you must first log out and then follow one of the procedures below from the main Login page.

📝 How to Reset Your Password via Email

This is the standard and most common method for resetting your password. Use this process if you have access to the email address associated with your account.

The process involves the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Login page (at `/auth`).
  2. Under the password field, click the Reset Password link.
  3. On the next page, enter your account's email address and click the submit button.
  4. Check your inbox for an email from VerifyThisSeal.com with a password reset link. This link is valid for one hour.
  5. Click the unique link in the email to go to the "Choose a New Password" page.
  6. Enter your new password in the New Password field and enter it again in the Confirm New Password field. Your password must be at least 8 characters long.
  7. Click Update Password.

After completing these steps, you will be redirected to the Login page where a success message will be displayed, and you can log in with your new password.

📝 How to Reset Your Password with a Recovery Key

Use this method only if you have lost access to your account's email address but still have your securely stored recovery key.

To use your recovery key:

  1. Navigate to the Login page (at `/auth`).
  2. Under the password field, click the Use Recovery Key link.
  3. On the Account Recovery page, enter your Account Email and your unique Recovery Key.
  4. Click Reset Password.
  5. If your details are correct, you will be taken directly to the "Choose a New Password" page.
  6. Enter and confirm your new password, then click Update Password.

🔒 Security and Data Privacy

The password reset process includes several key security features to protect your account.

  • Email Privacy: To prevent others from identifying registered emails, the "Reset Password" page will always show a generic confirmation ("If an account with that email exists..."). It will not confirm whether the email you entered is in our system or not.
  • Link Expiration: For your security, password reset links sent via email automatically expire one hour after they are issued.

🆘 Final Recovery Option: Contacting Support

If you are unable to reset your password via email and you have also lost your recovery key, you have one final option to regain access to your seals.

Please contact support directly for assistance. For your security, the manual recovery process is thorough and may require you to re-verify your identity before we can restore access to your original account and its associated seals.
